Wandering Dudes Events

Mid-run visitors that reshape your economy, Relic Pool, and Type bonuses — including launch-only Food, Promoter, and Smuggler Dudes.

Last updated:

Wandering Dude events interrupt a run with high-leverage choices. Some fund your Relic snowball. Others patch a thin Relic Pool or gamble cash for power. Knowing when to take the deal matters as much as knowing what each visitor does.

This guide covers demo staples and July 30, 2026 launch visitors. Cross-link with Relic Pool & Economy and Game Modes.

Merchant Dude

The classic shop visit. Buy Relics that reinforce your committed Types; skip luxury items if Business Dude is still unpaid. After Merchant purchases, avoid abandon/replay softlocks on older demo builds — launch builds should be safer, but keep saves tidy when reporting bugs.

Take when: the shop shows a Type Relic for your carry or a Cheat Death / sustain piece you lack. Skip when: prices would empty the bank before a Business Dude visit you intend to max.

Business Dude

The heart of Dudeconomy. Three investment windows per run can turn a careful early bank into late-game “buy the whole row” power. Full breakdown lives in Relic Pool & Economy and Newbie Tips.

Rule of thumb: invest if the next few waves are survivable without that cash. Buy the stabilizing Relic if they are not.

Scavenger Dude

Scavenger appears multiple times per run (since the January 2026 Turbo Update). He helps when your Dude-specific Relic pool is exhausted — as of demo patch v0.1.41-rc.13 he falls back to Family and Universal Relics instead of vanishing.

Take when: your Type Relics are mostly collected and you still need tools. Caution: loans and delayed payoffs only work if you expect to live long enough to collect.

Food Dude (Launch)

Food Dude lets you pick delicacies that boost a chosen Dude Type. Treat the pick like a mini-Trinket: put the bonus on your carry or on the tank that keeps the carry alive — not on a flex Type you might replace.

Best targets: the Type already holding your key Trinket, or the healer enabling greedy economy plays.

Promoter Dude (Launch)

Promoter offers underground fight wagers. High risk, high reward. Only wager cash you can lose without missing the next Business Dude investment or a mandatory Relic purchase. Great when your board is already stable and you want a spike; terrible when you are one wipe from Juice bankruptcy.

Smuggler Dude (Launch)

Smuggler can sell Relics from families not on your roster. That is the emergency valve for focused single-Family teams that still need an off-Family tool — or for multi-Family teams that never saw a specific Relic.

Take when: the offered Relic fills a G.O.A.T. hole (mobility, Cheat Death, Ram clear) your Pool will not produce soon. Skip when: the Relic encourages a mid-run identity crisis that dilutes your Type focus.

Decision Framework

Ask four questions every visit:

  1. Does this help me survive the next boss or filter wave?
  2. Does this protect or grow the Business Dude snowball?
  3. Does this focus or dilute my Relic Pool identity?
  4. If I decline, is there a realistic later source (shop, Scavenger, Smuggler) for the same need?

If answers are no / no / dilute / yes later — walk away.

Mode Notes

Wandering events appear across Main Run, Daily Dude, Ensemble, Rematch, and into Endless after a final boss. Daily Dude’s fixed Flyers make Smuggler and Scavenger especially valuable when the day’s Pool is awkward. Ensemble with few pre-posts may see Scavenger sooner if you exhaust a tiny early Pool.

  • Builds — which Types deserve Food / Trinket investment
  • Updates — patch notes if Wandering behavior changes post-launch
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about How Many Dudes.

Are Food, Promoter, and Smuggler in the free demo?

They are full-release systems previewed around the July 23, 2026 demo refresh and unlocked with 1.0 content. Always confirm in your build's Dudex if an event is missing.

Should I always take Merchant Relics?

No. Merchant is optional. Protect Business Dude investments and buy only Relics that match your committed Types or fill survival holes.

What if Scavenger does not appear?

He appears several times per run when his pool has offers. If all Dude-specific Relics are exhausted, newer builds offer Family/Universal fallbacks — update if you are on a very old demo patch.

Is Promoter Dude worth the gamble?

Only with surplus cash and a stable board. Never wager the money earmarked for the next Business Dude double.

Can Smuggler break single-Family strategy?

Used carefully, Smuggler patches holes without recruiting a fifth Family. Used greedily, it tempts you into a confused mid-run pivot — stay intentional.
