Welcome to the How Many Dudes? Wiki — the fan-made companion site covering the standalone roguelike game developed by Butterscotch Shenanigans, creators of Crashlands. This wiki is not affiliated with or endorsed by Butterscotch Shenanigans.

August 11, 2026 update: the wiki added a complete Steam Achievements guide (all 69 unlocks) and refreshed Updates through v1.0.12-rc.2 (August 8). Butterscotch announced a free content update with new Dudes targeting release within a couple of months after 100k sales in 50 hours.

What is How Many Dudes?

How Many Dudes? is a roguelike dudebuilder and strategic autobattler born from the viral “how many men vs one gorilla?” debate. You recruit an army of absurd Dudes, stack synergies, collect Relics and Trinkets, and survive escalating waves — from toddlers to gorillas to gods.

The demo surpassed 475,000 downloads ahead of the full launch, with over 200,000 Steam wishlists as of April 2026.

How to Play the Demo

The free demo is available on three official platforms only:

  • Steam (recommended) — full 4K resolution, best performance; demo progress carries over to the full game
  • itch.io — browser-based version with identical content
  • Gx.games — same build as itch.io

Avoid unofficial APKs or any site claiming to offer a free full version — Butterscotch explicitly warns these are scams or malware. Only use the official sources above.

How Many Dudes? is built on interlocking systems that compound into deep runs:

  1. Dude Families — 42 unique Dudes across 6 families (Undead, Employed, Warrior, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Action)
  2. Synergies — combining Dudes from the same family unlocks stacking bonuses
  3. Relics — hundreds of collectibles that warp combat rules
  4. Trinkets — equippable boss rewards assigned to a Dude Type (Baseball Bat, Taser, Face Tattoo, and more at launch); see the Trinkets guide
  5. Wandering Dude Events — Merchant, Scavenger, Food Dude, Promoter Dude, Smuggler Dude, and others reshape mid-run choices
  6. Challenge Tiers — Tier 2 and Tier 3 unlock after beating the Tier 1 final boss, with Endless Mode after any final boss

Game Modes

  • Main Run — the core roguelike experience
  • Daily Dude — shared daily Pre-Posted Flyer challenge
  • Ensemble Mode — pre-select your squad (slots unlock via metaprogression)
  • Rematch Mode — pre-lock all five Dude Types and rematch with the full Relic Pool (see Rematch Mode guide)
  • Endless Mode — continue after any final boss to push past round 110+ (see Endless Mode guide)

See the Game Modes guide for details. Boss Trinkets are covered in the Trinkets guide.
