Dudeconomy Guide

Turn Gold, Juice, and shop timing into snowballing Relic power — without starving your squad.

Last updated:

Dudeconomy is Butterscotch shorthand for the cash loop that decides whether your Relic Pool ever comes online. In How Many Dudes?, Gold is not a score — it is permission to take risks, restock shops, revive key Types, and buy the Relic that turns a decent squad into a G.O.A.T. clearer.

This guide focuses on spending windows, interest, and Juice discipline. For how Flyer choices change which Relics can appear, pair it with Relic Pool & Economy. For boss-specific cash holds, see G.O.A.T. Boss.

The Three Currencies That Matter Mid-Run

ResourceWhat it buysFailure mode
Gold / cashShop Relics, restocks, temporary powerHoarding into a boss with empty slots
Dude JuiceRevives after Knock OutsOverspending early, broke by Act bosses
Pocket DiceShop / Flyer RNG controlBurning dice on low-stakes rerolls

Metaprogression raises starting cash, consumable counts, and Pocket Dice tiers over time — see Metaprogression.

Business Dude and Compound Interest

Official newbie guidance puts Business Dude near the top of the economy tree. Interest rewards intentional saving between shop visits, then dumping into a power spike when a Relic row actually solves a hole.

Practical pattern:

  1. Early — fund a healer and a tank before pure bank strategies
  2. Mid — let interest work for a few rounds if the shop is trash
  3. Spike windows — spend hard before Act Bosses and especially before round 105
  4. Never leave lethal rounds under-bought because you wanted a prettier bank number

Finance Dude life-insurance style income pairs well with tanky Warrior fronts that survive the situations that pay out.

Dude Juice Discipline

Juice is the silent run killer. Every Knock Out you “just revive” is Gold that never became a Relic.

Bias the board toward not dying:

  • Cheat Death Relics (Circuit Breaker, Bat Wings, and similar)
  • Max HP / Toughness / Temporary Health
  • Peels from Cowboy lasso or Knight taunt
  • Consumables held for lethal spikes, not cosmetic top-offs

Butterscotch’s own tip list frames this bluntly: preventing KOs lets you take bigger risks and stay richer.

Shop Timing

Buy When the Relic Answers a Job

  • Missing sustain? Healer Relics and Temporary Health beat random damage
  • Facing swarms? AoE and summon Taunt beat another single-target toy
  • Heading into G.O.A.T.? Survivability and Cheat Death outrank vanity crit

Restock With Intent

Pocket Dice and restock rows exist so you are not stuck with a dead shop. Use them when:

  • You are one Relic away from a known synergy
  • Pre-boss and the current row does nothing for burst or Rams
  • Daily Dude / Ensemble Pre-Posted Flyers already narrowed the pool and you are hunting a Type Relic

Do not restock on every blank feeling — each spend is a Relic you did not buy.

Flyer Choices Are Economy Choices

Posting a Dude Type adds that Type’s Relics and its Family Relics to the pool. Wide five-Family teams create a larger toolbox but lower odds on any single Relic. Tight two-Type openings keep the pool small and make shop Gold more efficient.

That is why economy guides and Relic Pool guides are the same skill viewed from two angles.

Mode-Specific Notes

  • Main Run — classic growth curve; Business Dude lines shine
  • Daily Dude / Rematch / Ensemble — Pre-Posted Flyers change the pool before the first shop; plan spends around the locked Types
  • Endless — post-boss cash is for sustain taxes and new modifiers; do not enter Endless broke

Common Economy Mistakes

  1. All-in shopping on round 5, then starving the mid-game
  2. Never buying because “interest goes brrr” into a wipe
  3. Reviving everything instead of fixing the death cause
  4. Spreading Flyers so wide that shop Gold cannot hit your carry Relics
  5. Entering round 105 with a fat wallet and no Cheat Death
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about How Many Dudes.

Should I always save for Business Dude interest?

Save when the shop is weak and you are not about to face a spike. Spend hard before Act Bosses and the G.O.A.T. Interest that dies in your pocket is wasted.

What is Dude Juice?

Dude Juice is the revive resource after Knock Outs. The best Juice strategy is dying less — Cheat Death, Toughness, and peels preserve Gold for Relics.

When do I use Pocket Dice?

On high-leverage shops: pre-boss rows, missing synergy pieces, or Daily/Ensemble hunts for a specific Type Relic. Avoid burning dice on low-stakes early rerolls.

Is economy different in Ensemble Mode?

Pre-Posted Flyers change the Relic Pool before the run. Your Gold still buys the same things, but the targets are clearer because the roster is partly locked.

How does this interact with the Relic Pool?

Cash only helps if the Relic you need can appear. Flyer diversity and focus decide that — see the Relic Pool guide for the math.
