Platforms & Devices
PC, phones, and Steam Deck — how progress, controls, and performance differ after 1.0.
How Many Dudes? launched on July 30, 2026 across Steam (PC), Android, and iOS. A free demo still exists for trying the loop, but the full roster, Trinkets, Challenge Tiers 2–3, and launch Wandering Dudes require the 1.0 build.
This page is the platform checklist: where to buy, what transfers, and how controller / Deck play works. For day-one content unlocks, see the Launch Guide. For the latest hotfix line, see Updates.
Platform Matrix
| Platform | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Steam PC | Full 1.0 | Best performance / 4K path; demo progress carries over |
| Android | Full 1.0 | Google Play listing live at launch |
| iOS | Full 1.0 | App Store listing (~$9.99 at launch window) |
| Steam Deck | Supported | Official Steam Input profile + cloud saves |
| Browser demos | Demo only | itch.io / Gx.games — progress may not transfer |
Stick to official storefronts. Butterscotch warns that unofficial “free full game” links are scams or malware.
Steam PC
- Primary hub for patches — watch Steam news and official patch notes
- Launch window featured a 35% introductory discount (confirm live pricing on the store page)
- Demo owners should update into the full game rather than wiping saves
- Windows 11 players who hit Smart App Control or locale-related launch issues should check Steam discussions and hotfix notes during stabilization
Mobile (Android & iOS)
Mobile ships the same dudebuilder fantasy with touch-first UI:
- Expect interface tweaks versus desktop click targets
- Large late-run battles are where performance patches matter most — Butterscotch called out mobile optimization during post-launch stabilization
- Cross-progress depends on the account / cloud systems available on your storefront (Steam Cloud + Butterscotch Rumpus on the PC side; follow in-game account prompts on mobile)
If a Rumpus login prompt repeats on PC, update past v1.0.5-rc.7; v1.0.5-rc.8 also filled missing localization on Rumpus login failure messages.
Steam Deck & Controllers
Pre-launch Deck work already added:
- Official Steam Input profile with virtual cursor + mapped buttons
- Touchscreen interaction for clickable UI
- Steam Cloud and Rumpus cloud save hooks for cross-device progress
Practical Deck tips:
- Use the official community / official profile before inventing a layout
- Slow the cursor if shop misclicks burn Gold
- Prefer Dock + external controls only after you trust the on-handheld profile
- Verify cloud sync after the first Deck session so mobile/PC experiments do not diverge
Demo vs Full Game
| Feature | Demo | Full 1.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Core loop & families | Yes | Yes |
| Full 42-Dude launch roster tools | Partial / preview | Yes |
| Trinkets, Tier 2/3, launch Wanderers | Preview / locked | Yes |
| Progress transfer | Steam demo → full | N/A |
Browser demos are great for a taste test; Steam remains the clean transfer path.
Performance & Stabilization Context (August 2026)
Launch week focus from Butterscotch and community reports:
- Crash edge cases in huge multi-effect battles
- Mobile performance passes
- UI clarity (Tier indicators on victory/loss screens as of v1.0.5-rc.8)
- Account prompt polish for Rumpus
You do not need a different “meta” per device — you need stable frames and reliable input so Relic decisions stay readable.
