Killipede — Tier 2 Final Boss

Earn Freight Train: defeat the Killipede for a Tier 2 Gold Star after unlocking with five Tier 1 Gold Star Types.

Last updated:

The Killipede is the Tier 2 final boss in How Many Dudes?. Beating it with a Gold Star unlocks the Freight Train Steam achievement and advances your Challenge Tier progression toward Tier 3. This guide covers unlock gates, fight priorities, and how it differs from the Tier 1 G.O.A.T..

Latest build context: v1.0.12-rc.2 (August 8, 2026) fixed Spray n’ Pray cooldown and Warlock Unholy Grail — useful for Trooper and Warlock cores heading into Tier 2. See Updates.

How to Unlock Tier 2

Butterscotch’s progression rule: earn Gold Stars with five Dude Types by completing Tier 1 (defeat the G.O.A.T. on round 105). Discoveries, Ensemble slots, Silver Stars, and Pocket Dice help your account but do not replace that five-Type Gold Star requirement.

Fastest route:

  1. Draft five Types covering front line, healing, sustained damage, and crowded-screen damage
  2. Finish round 105 — do not divert into Endless if Tier 2 unlock is the goal
  3. Apply Gold Stars to all five Types on the winning roster
  4. Repeat until five Types have Tier 1 Gold Stars, then start Tier 2

A Steam beta briefly tested unlocking Tier 2 immediately; that experiment was cancelled August 5, 2026. Live game still uses the Gold Star gate. Details: Challenge Tiers and Metaprogression.

What Makes Killipede Different from G.O.A.T.

Prep focusCheat Death, Temp HP, Ram clearSustained damage, area control, consumable reserve

Treat Killipede as a marathon, not a burst race. Builds that barely scrape G.O.A.T. with consumable panic often fail here when those tools run dry.

Pre-Fight Checklist

  • Roster jobs filled — tank/taunt, healer or lifesteal, sustained DPS, AoE/crowd control
  • Relic Pool focused — prefer one or two Families so key Relics appear; see Relic Pool
  • Trinkets assigned — Taser / Medical License / sustain Trinkets on the Types that define the fight
  • Consumables reserved — keep Dude Juice, Health Potion, Meteors, and Bottled Lightning for the final corridor; see Consumables
  • Stop long loans — close Scavenger loans and risky Business Dude cycles before the final stretch

Fight Priorities

  1. Keep core Types alive — revive only when the Type is load-bearing (healer, taunt, or main carry), not every KO
  2. Area control — Meteors, Cleave, Time Anomalies, and skeleton taunts create space when the screen fills
  3. Sustained DPS — Viking, Necrodude, Electrician, Samurai, and Hacker cores that already clear G.O.A.T. scale better than glass burst comps
  4. Do not dump all consumables in the opener — Killipede rewards pacing; save a second wave of tools for mid-fight collapses
  • Viking + Necrodude + Spartan — front-to-back template from Builds; Skeledudes absorb pressure while Viking shreds
  • Undead sustain — Vampire / Lich / Necro for attrition fights
  • Fantasy control — Wizard + Cleric when Relic Pool stays narrow
  • Trooper Spray n’ Pray — cooldown now respects internal timer after v1.0.12-rc.2; solid crowded-screen tool

Avoid five-Family random drafts for your first Killipede attempt — pool dilution makes the long fight feel unfair.

Freight Train Achievement Tips

  • Freight Train requires a Gold Star Killipede win, not a bare survival clear
  • Bring your strongest five-Type roster; Ensemble or Rematch can lock the lineup
  • If the run is wobbling at the Act Boss before Killipede, reset rather than burning Juice on a doomed roster
  • Global unlock rate for Freight Train is low (~1% range in community trackers) — expect multiple Tier 2 attempts

After Killipede

  • Stars from higher Tiers still backfill lower Tiers
  • Tier 3 final boss unlocks Cosmic Forces
  • Optional Endless Mode after any final boss — useful for testing, not for Collectible credit on some tracks
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about How Many Dudes.

How do I unlock the Killipede fight?

Unlock Tier 2 by earning Gold Stars with five Dude Types on completed Tier 1 runs (defeat the G.O.A.T.), then progress through Tier 2 to the final boss.

What is Freight Train?

The Steam achievement for defeating the Killipede with a Gold Star in Tier 2.

Is Killipede harder than G.O.A.T.?

Usually yes as a sustained DPS and attrition check. G.O.A.T. punishes burst/Ram chaos; Killipede punishes builds that cannot maintain damage and recovery over a long fight.

Can I skip Tier 1 Gold Stars to reach Tier 2?

Not on the live build. A Steam beta tested open Tier access and was cancelled August 5, 2026 after mixed-to-negative feedback.
